Hospital and Examples of Outcomes

Hospital set up and examples
Please look below for written examples of one of each outcome

Lets see how many outcomes can be observed from this set up.

Outcome 1

1:4-Children learn to interact in relation to others with care, empathy and respect-Allowing others to join in with what they are doing, helping others to hold up X-rays, to look together.

Outcome 2

2:3 Children become aware of fairness-Taking turns with stethoscope, given someone else a turn at the X-rays and the writing clip board

Outcome 3

3:2-Children take increasing responsibility for their own health and physical well being-Discussions were made about bones. The children were asked 'Where are your bones'. A couple were able to answer. When one of the children's mum arrived for pick up, she asked her daughter to tell me about what happened when she went to the dentist. (The x-ray was of teeth). She responded by explaining about the chair.

Outcome 4

4:1-Children develop dispositions for learning such as: Curiosity, Imagination, Inquiry and researching- When arriving outside and seeing the set up they all gathered around saying "Wow", then began looking around at all the things set up. Imagination was used to pretend to be what they wanted to be. One said 'Doctor' another said Nurse. Then create their own play with the resources, pretending the teddies were sick. Inquiry and researching, through looking closely to all the charts and posters.

Outcome 5

5:1-Children interact verbally and non-verbally with others for a range of purposes- The children followed their friends around looking at what they are doing, then copying. At times speaking to their friend and at other times just quietly sitting with them. One child sat down on the chairs, then another sat beside. While sitting they were both doing their own thing, then one would pass their item over to their friend without talking. Another time one of the children handed over one of the stethoscopes and said "Your turn". Too many to mention..

  1. Reflection- This set up showed more enthusiasm then I expected from the children. It was directed because one of the parents mentioned that he has a doctors costume at home. So doing this set up allowed me connect with home and care and was provided by the family.
One parent communicated to her child about telling me about her dentist trip. Because it was mentioned that the xray was of teeth. Could change the theme around to involve a Dentistry. One parent suggested this and also mentioned it would incorporate looking after their teeth and hygiene. So.. some fantastic feedback, input and communication by the families. The children also requested other items that could be added. I had originally thought of the children taking turns at being the patience however they requested dolls and teddies. Worked just as well. They all stayed interested in this activity for about 10 minutes. Was hoping for bit longer however being outside with lots of their other interests I could understand.
