My name is Erin Gorman and my first son, James, started family day care with Robyn in August 2011, when he was 8 months old. I'd heard of family day care through friends and thought that it was a very personal and family orientated approach. I loved that James would be cared for in a home environment. This is precisely what Robyn provides. It's obvious how much Robyn enjoys children, loves toys and has a beautiful family of her own. I knew immediately that James would be happy and this relieved most of my anxiety about returning to work. Robyn was spoken of very highly in the family day care unit of Banyule council. She works within the strict rules and safety measures set by the service. Robyn is very professional in her paperwork and manages to communicate all the relevant information in a friendly and reassuring way. It often feels as though I'm dropping James at his Auntie's house and I'm dealing with my sister. This is my first experience of childcare. I was very grateful to get a place in family day care before a childcare centre. I was surprised to learn that it's often cheaper and with more flexibility of food and formula etc. Upon meeting Robyn, I knew instantly that this was the type of care and carer that we wanted. James was immediately intrigued by Robyn's extensive collection of toys and extremely child friendly games room and backyard. It was obvious from the warm, friendly and polite nature of the other children that they were comfortable and happy in the environment. Robyn comes from childcare background. She has great teaching skills and discipline skills. She inspires me to get creative even with an 8 month old that's constantly trying to taste the texta and paintbrush. She taught me to let James get dirty to have fun and that it's much easier when they're dressed appropriately for it. Robyn has guided me through introducing different foods and teaching eating skills. She has taught me daily routine and sleep times. I feel like I'm supported in each phase of James' progress. I appreciate her approach to child development and often seek her advise and opinions. We only had the pleasure of working with Robyn for 5 months but we would have continued to employ her for as long as possible. She has developed a lovely relationship with James in this short time and so each of her own family members. I really enjoyed my first experience of childcare thanks to Robyn. The time and effort she puts into her children's portfolios and photo albums exemplifies her high standard of care. I would not hesitate to recommend Robyn. We will miss her.
