Days of one Educator

Wednesday 12th August 14
Hi all, It has been a crazy this past week. I have had quite a few children away sick, or being sent home from care. Gladly everyone seems to be better this week.
We have a public holiday here tomorrow so I am not sure if I will be on again. Will see.
We started with a long play outside this morning. Due to some four little 2-3yrs olds becoming quite energetic inside. They all took turns on the peddle bikes, which was great to see nearly all able to use their strength to peddle and coordination to direct their bikes in and around the track and around the tyres. Others waiting, found fun in sitting in the middle of the tyres, while they waited for their turn on the bikes. Which was great for learning patience.

Wednesday 6th August 14
Hi everyone, Sorry I have not updated in a few days. Monday is currently my day off and yesterday I only had one child in care and today two. Sometimes attention needed when there is less in care takes up more time. I encourage independent play especially in bigger groups. That is not to say that my time needed for them is lessened but does mean that if they are able to create their own experiences at times, creates more times for me to get documenting done. I do have the advantage of having the children in their own 'day care' room which allows complete supervision.
So.. we have had quite a few children away to winter illnesses and over the weekend had to fight my own head cold, which has now eased. Unfortunately my family is now one by one gaining and recovering also from the sniffles and stuffiness.
Today to be honest I paid more attention to creating wedding invitations for a good friend of mine then doing documenting. One reason being however is the fact that hubby is still trying to find out a way to sort out my documenting program. I think tomorrow I am just going to have to write everything up by hand. Oh the pain!! Sorry technology has the better of me now and has for a while.
Looking forward to my next day of work and creating wonderful experiences for my little cherubs.
Good night.

Friday 1st August 14
Another nice morning out in the sun today. It was actually getting quite hot. Outside we used a rope to play rope games. The children showed enjoyment catching it with their feet while being wobbled along the ground.

Thursday 31st July 14
Another beautiful sunny day and a clean day care room. Helps to make the mind start work with a fresher outlook for the day.
The children have arrived, one straight into fixing up teddies with bandages and using the clip board to write doctors notes. Another sitting and watching playschool, which was put on to incorporate play with the teddies. The other having smooches. He is a new little one, who after three weeks is settling very well.

1:58pm-Rest time is just about over and much blogging done, photo's uploaded and wondering why my eyes are getting tired. Possible because I became to caught up in my work I forgot my coffee!! I'll wait a few minutes so as the kettle does wake the one left sleeping. My other child in care is happily sitting on her bed colouring away. With a colour book and blank paper. She is very creative in her drawing that one.

My back is feeling a bit better today. Last night was a shocker though. Heat packs, hot bath kind of done the trick.

Starting to get a bit cold inside now, since everything is closed up for rest time. Looking forward to getting outside with the kiddies. Didn't head out this morning. Lots of smoke in the area due to a bush fire.

Wednesday 30th July 14
Morning everyone! Wednesday..Ok so half way through the week, ending the month, tax paper work still not completed, processing week, toys need cleaning again, computer program playing up that I use for documenting and odd projects needing completing. However..the sun is shinning through the windows and doors directly into the day care room. Two of the four children have arrived and we have already finished doing another coat of paint to our tyres.

Another very busy day. The children showed enjoyment playing with my pick up toy claw. Pretty much the same as one of those pick up rubbish poles with a moving clamp at the bottom. So glad I found this thing at the local cheap shop. My back has been sore for days now, and is sending the tension right up to my shoulders. Hubby mentioned I need to do some back stretches through out the day, in which he makes a good point. I guess being in one of those jobs where you are continually bending to pick things off the floor or lifting children. Some times not remembering to do it the correct way.
Hopefully after rest time it is still nice outside, have some plans for an outdoor set up that I would like to do. I think the children will like it, as it involves most of their learning interests. See how we go, observe and reflect!!

Tuesday 29th July 14
Back to work for another week. Bit fresh this morning with 2degrees. However it has already started to warm up, sun is shining, which will be wonderful for our outdoor play this morning. First off we have our table set up this morning. Some magazines that were given by our scheme, scissors, scrap paper, glue, paper alphabet letters and crayons.
Soon to be morning tea and outside play. Hoping to get some more tyres painted if the children are up to it.

Busy times already this morning. With three littlies been told a few times to not run inside, while pretending to be Tigers. Glueing and scissor cutting was a hit. With all the children coming and going from the table. Mean while one child getting hand jammed in the toy box. (Latch to be added on my Quality Improvement play) and another deciding it would be a good idea to drop a toy corn into the potty immediately after a child stand up from using that potty. Then that child thinking he should pick up the corn that his friend dropped in there. Hand washing and disinfecting time!! My roller skate shoes was just not quick enough to avoid that one.
Quiet morning tea time now, with some yummy Rockmelon and Banana. Once done, some energy burning outside I think.

Unfortunately we didn't get outside this morning, as great gushes of wind started kicking in. Still, we all enjoyed dress ups and singing/dancing to nursery rhymes from youtube. Well..they enjoyed dress ups, I kindly declined that particular part, however nominated to be the dresser.
As the children are finishing their lunches one by one, they are so politely asking for their achievement stamp. Has just become an automatic thing for them now. Love having my little handy star stamp close by on my desk. Now all in bed reading books and talking to each other "I got a stamp see". With reply of "Me too".
All snuggled up now, one left to drift off and by the look of the eyes just about to reach the point of sweet dreams. :)
So..now, to sort out that 7GB of photo's for July!!

4:45pm- Photo's got sorted and even had a chance to start first reflection photo's for one child. That was until I started having issues with Libraoffice draw!. All the work I had done, now the photo's are not opening on the page, with some silly icon on each.Arrrr! Anyway..The weather warmed up after rest time, so we took afternoon tea outside. The sun was amazing! All the children decided they were going to play with cars and the mountain and track. While watching their faces, waiting for their own car to come screaming out the whole and down the slide was priceless with their laughter. Having a bowl of mini pretzels on hand to share kept their energy up while they burned the concrete on their three wheelies and climbing the equipment. Of course the quieter times on the picnic mate with blocks was great too, until a parent arrived and I couldn't get up for a bit due to pin's and needles in one foot. Relaxing though and many cuddles and lap sitting was precious. Joys of the job :)
Another day done and dusted. Look forward to tomorrow!

Friday 25th July 14

Good Morning everyone!! Well.. morning for those here.
Another night where the mess of the day care room was abandoned. I guess, thinking to my self that the next day is Friday. This is usually the day that I/the children re-sort all of the toys that, throughout the week have been packed up in no particular order. Random boxes, baskets, shelves used to store quickly to have the day move along.
However this morning was not as it was yesterday. Our son had sneakily come down and tidied and swept the whole thing! First thought 'You little ripper!'. That is.. what I was thinking compared to yesterday morning. I do appreciate the odd assistance from family members. Although on a regular basis would be nice but I think pushing the thought a little. However appreciating the little things makes me feel some what appreciated.
Time to start setting up, while hoping to find sets of something through out the boxes of randoms.
8:09am- First child arrives and I have spend the last half hour attempting to sort the toys, getting distracted from the task of actually setting anything up. Luckily for me the first arrival is a very imaginative young one who communicates very well her interests and talks about adding to set up pretend play. So..this morning she has let me know what we could set up. Currently setting up fruit and vegies in one of the day care beds. At times with mattress removed becomes a new table. Look forward to seeing how she extends from the initial thoughts.
BACK LATER :)

Back again. Only two in care today, so you would think the amount of packing up to do would of been cut in half. NO!! The morning is nearly over and the children are at the table with lunch. Having a little chat together. So cute listening to little ones conversations. Then rest time. I have had to make use of my extender toy pick up claw as the back is not playing the game so well today. Nothing series just a bit of tension.
Through out the morning was lots of one to another play. Firstly the enthusiastic child setting up some food and tea set, followed by numerous designs of indoor cubby houses. The parachute came out again, with time setting up, to only last amusement for five minutes. So onto the next thing. This time the barbie house. This actually lasted a lot longer!.
Then followed by remembering I had promised mum I would take out the ties I put in her daughters hair awhile back. To the child's disappointment, however after being told we could do it again at a later stage, straightened the bottom lip.
 Rest and coffee time!.

Rest time went well. Didn't get back to blogging because as soon as rest time was finished it was straight into picnic afternoon tea in the yard, play and then pick up time. Early finish today due to some absences.

Thursday 24th July 14

Sun is up and another day to rock and roll. Floors and a mixture of other things have been cleaned. Today for me was one of those mornings where my first impression when entering the day care area was "Oh bugger". Well.. I won't mention what I was actually thinking. Advantages I guess of having a separate area for work is, if the evening before becomes out of control or my laziness sets in after caring for four toddlers for nine and a half hours, I can throw my hands up and tell my self I'll sort it in the morning. Then contemplate a lovely glass of red. Disadvantage of completing the next morning is when regret sets in because of the rush to get things done on time for my first arrival.
To be honest the fantastic parents I have wouldn't really care less if I was still in my PJ's when they arrived. I guess seeing myself as having strong work ethics have prevented me to be game to do that. Maybe I should program a PJ day for the children. Mmm.

All children for the day have arrived. Due to the big rush this morning I have not organised any set ups. Not that I am overly concerned, sometimes you have to 'Let it go'. As I write this, listening to two girls in dress ups, dancing around singing the oh so..lovely 'Frozen' song. Thoughts have crossed my mind to banning of this song in my presence. However it keeps them happy and I could always contemplate pulling out my ear plugs.

Now that they are settled I can take this time to set up a few things before the singing wears off and hell breaks loose.
Back later:)

12:30- Back again. All the children minus one who has been picked up early today, are all tucked into their little pull out from the wall beds. One crashed, another tossing and the third enjoying rest time with a dvd on the portable player with head phones. Curtains are closed which provides a relaxing, quiet feel to the room. To my advantage I have some great sleepers. Giving time for me to sit down and have my midday coffee. Sure do need it with my eye's tiring by the minute. Seeing them all rugged up does not help and the thought that I could easily pull up one of their mattresses on the floor and have a snooze myself.

This morning seemed to go pretty fast. Lots of activities happening. Firstly the set up when I left the blog this morning. I stood around the room wondering what I have, to use. Then rotating thoughts of that and what are they are actually interested in. Checked the programs for each child, however I had really nothing I wanted to continue with on books today. Sometimes feeling like, when you go to the butchers to get meat for dinners for the next few nights. Get to Wednesday, look in the fridge and say "Na,I really don't feel like that tonight".

Advantages of running my own rock show is..that's ok!. Make something else, create new things, not having to cross each t and dot your i's. This is another reason why I like to program monthly. You have a whole month to do those experiences you had planned.
So what did we set up?.. Well even though the enjoyment of listening to numerous singings of 'let it go'. I decided to get one of the white day care bed sheets and put it over the table. Then I asked the children "If we were to set this table up like a scene in frozen, what could we use?" Oh did the suggestions come flowing. We ended up putting a little stool on the table and covered it with another white sheet, to make it look like a snowy mountain. Then one of the children added a barbie and Ken for the people, a bowl with a blue shawl to put pencils in and some scrap paper. Then it got to adding blue string and the children wanting sticky tape and..... OK outside time!!!

Morning tea was great they all ate well. Although I find in interesting that one particular child will eat everything and will argue over the last piece. Oh they do like to test to see who will win. Sorry little chickens! You know who it will be!!.

So outdoor time. What a beautiful morning it was out there. Lots of sunny and shaded area's. It is one of those times of year here when you appreciate the warmth of the sun, after five to ten minutes heading for the shade..then back to the sun. No jumpers really needed depending on the wind factor.

We all kicked balls around, then the attempts of hoop-hip twirling by myself when requested by one of the children, didn't go down so well. Well actually it did, straight to my feet. Was never really a hip person. Possibly years ago when I use to do competitive ballroom dancing. Gone are those days now. Of course after my failed attempts I was verbally notified to watch one child who ensured I was watching her. Of course pretending I have eye's in the back of my head sometimes catches me out. While calling out "Keep going, I am watching", I am walking backwards with eyes changing from one direction to another so I do not miss the possible fall from another child who insists on climbing through the window of the cubby house instead of using the door!!! Next minute "Robyn did you see that?". Yes.. I did, wow!!", well...they will learn the joys of little white lies soon enough. I don't think they need me to explain it right now. Decision making requires swift action at times when being responsible for four children that especially not your own. Safe to say that window child was captured mid air of a possible face plant!.

Outside play over and done with, now for nappy changes, hand washing, trips to the toilet, washing hands again, two children needing their bottles refilled, one child continually asking what I am doing, another asking are we having lunch yet, one child needing help to get their trousers untwisted, then preparing lunch, "what are we having for lunch". With my swift response as always "Food".

I started this a while back, as it gave me time to not have to hear the "Ohh but I don't want that today". So the answer is always the same. It does usually stops most the children from even bothering to ask. One time it bit me when I said something different. It actually made this particular child excited. I replied" what ever is on the menu board". This followed by pointing to each day of the week saying "What does that say? What does that say we are having? but I can't read!"

Everything sorted and the children at the table, I sit with one little one who is not overly impressed with food of any kind. Encouragement given by myself and from the others allowed some tasting to occur. Which was a big step for him. Eventually eating half of his pasta and sauce!.I like to give my children a happy dance. However two such older children look at each other then start laughing. I probably look like a right idiot but what ever gets them going I'm in on that!

So all lunch is done and another morning over. Currently thinking it is Friday tomorrow right?!

NOW where is my coffee!!

Children are now up, time for nappy changes, toileting and hand washing, afternoon tea and encouragement for the children to not insist on pulling or tipping out absolutely everything they can put their hands on. Promising of going outside again usually does the trick. Once said, straight to the table they head. Afternoon tea completed and It is now 3:15pm and the start of parent arrivals until 5pm. I will be honest to say that at times this period seems to become the longest part of the day. Brain over drive on keeping children amused but not particularly wanting to participate in much on offer. Thoughts are now setting into the mind of the children to when 'their' parent is going to arrive, since their friends have already left. Most days sitting on the picnic blanket and reading the children books, tends to pass some time for them in this instance. Mine also for that matter. It has been overall a long day, however I find much pleasure in seeing milestones being achieved in the children and appreciate the fact that I have played a part in that. THAT MAKES MY JOB WORTH WHILE. Signing out for the day:)
